7 wood

Hit the driving range at lunch today for a medium bucket. Nice sunny day in the 70s with a slight breeze. There were several people on the one side and a couple on my side. The line was back almost all the way to the fence. I took the very first bay.

I got out my range finder. It is a $20 cheapie from EB*Y. I checked out the distance markers to the flags. My range finder agreed with the distance key right at my feet.

I ran into the same guy whom I followed to Legends the other day when the range was closed for mowing. He accused me of being bad luck (he did it in a funny way). I told him what car I drove so if he saw it he could keep going.

I hit the entire bucket with my 7W. It is a Cobra Rail F 22* 7W with a Wishon interflexx high launch graphite shaft. This is my second or third-ish range session with the club since getting the shaft changed. It was one of those sessions that I kind of half way wished wouldn't end.

While there were a number of shots that skidded in the grass I was really pleased with the whole bucket. Near as I could tell there were shots at least 150 (blue flag) and maybe to the next or next flag with roll out. Mostly straight. The taller grass (it was mowed the other day) sure killed most of the rollout.

Looking at the grass stains on the clubface I can see that I am still hitting off center toward the toe but only by 1/4". Some shots went really high and some shots went lowish. I am sure that is because of randomness of my setup and swing. Shots did curve gently to the left. That is way different than when all my woods curve right. I did see one ball that seemed to throw itself back into the ground.

I will have to look back at my blog entries in the past to see how long this early season euphoria lasted last year.
