5th annual matt busey golf outing

Saturday was the 5th annual Matt Busey golf outing at the U of I Blue course. Bob couldn't play so it was me, Nicholas and Darrin. We turned in an 84ish. Not sure about the math on some of the holes. I played well for the first couple of holes. That is until my back really started hurting. This is the same thing that did me in last week. Darin and I played about the same - poorly. Good thing we had Nicholas. He carried us on many of the holes. I am really proud of how Nicholas played all 18 holes. He was focused, shot well, and didn't dwell on bad shots or even those balls where we didn't use his. Garrett hung with us for the first 9ish holes and bailed on us when Rich and Linda offered him a ride out of there.

The course was dry and rock hard. That gave me a 246 yard drive on one of the early holes before my back hurt a lot and I started sending all wood shots to the right. Many of those were just off to the right and still playable but it would have been nice to be in the middle of the fairway a little move often.

I didn't take the course condition into account with my club selection. My consistently 150 Ping G5 22* hybrid decided to be 180+ on one hole. My consistently 130-140 yard 8i decided to do that in the air and then roll another 10 yards or so. I don't play a lot of big boy golf. I normally play in the morning soon after the Par 3 course is watered. This was in the afternoon on a Par 5 course. Again it was good that Nicholas was with us.

After the round Nicholas and I got cleaned up and went to Bunnys. Good food and prizes. My back hurt too much to stay past the prizes. I almost won a haircut from J Alex but couldn't take it because Lisa collected that donation. Friends and family did well with prizes.
