Played 18 at Stone Creek with three others. Tee time was 8:52 AM. Got there early enough to hit a bucket of balls. Should have spent the time putting instead of driving. The driving range session did nothing to instill confidence. It was off the mats which only worked in my favor one time. Only the shorter clubs worked. I just feel wonky and my clubs end up with fake grass dust on them.
Amazingly everyone was on time and ready to go ahead of our time. The twosome who had the 8:45 spot caught up to us on the tee box so we let them go...how big of us. That will teach them to screw around trying to get some putting practice in. Turns out those two didn't exactly demonstrate blazing speed but it was sunny and warm and we were playing golf. The foursome behind us kept us in eyesight and a little close for comfort so we took a potty break on hole four and waited for them. And waited. And waited. They finally passed us. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. I guess they were using us to keep pace and were lost without having me in my yellow shirt ahead of them. We slowed our game down a bit here and there and still rode up on them still on the tee box as we finished the hole behind them. They were slow but not slow enough to warrant trying to play through them.
I sucked deep patootie on the first several holes with my 3 wood. No driver even though I packed one. Looking back I should have left the driver and taken the 7 iron. For that matter I could have left the 5 wood and packed lunch or something. I finally settled down just had the normal suckage plus putting is really hard on this course. The other day I was leaving putts short at Legends GC but at Stone Creek those are rockets past the hole. Still a fun day with a 60 on the front and a 50 on the back.
I am searching EBAY for an offset/draw 3 wood like the one I have. I can't decide which flex shaft. Right now the offset/draw is the answer to my problems, my head tells me. I hit everything to the right but I can't really rule out my aim. Seems like a club fitting is the way to go.
One interesting thing that Ray pointed out. I have a bad first tee shot and most times my second attempt is at least better if not spiffy in comparison to the first. So I started putting the tee in the ground on the tee box and taking my practice swing at that with out a ball. Then I put the ball and hit the tee shot. I had great (it is all relative) success doing that. Pushed the ball to the right. No one said "hey you are pointing the wrong way" so I must looking in the correct general direction.
My golf bag ended up on the right side of the cart. I am used to the left. Very used. I was tangled every time I had to get a club or put one away. Got kind of annoying.
Several times my cart partner left me behind while he drove up to his ball without the right club in my hand. It wasn't that he was trying to play ready golf I just think he wanted to get to his ball but it left me with not quite the correct club a few times. I did consider unhooking my bag and telling him leave these with me I might want one or two of them.
I whomped a ball into the side of Brad and Ray's cart. Silly people drove up to their ball and parked in front of me about 120-150 out. While I didn't try to aim at them they were right in my line. The ball flew and bounced and whomped into the side of the cart. It didn't sound like it hit hard and their cart did keep me out of the sand in all likelihood.
